I have, quite literally, been all around the world. About eight years ago, I set a goal to make it to every continent (sans Antartica) before the age of 30. I beat that mark by just under two years.
My aim is not to gloat, but to share with the world the many adventures I have been fortunate enough to experience, and the many lessons I have learned along the way. I’ve been telling myself for years I am going to do a better job of documenting this stuff, and now, I’m actually going to do so.
Why I Ain’t Sorry? Well, Beyoncé dropped her critically acclaimed album Lemonade in April 2016, and I was never one of those people able to act like I hadn’t listened to it or that it wasn’t a masterpiece. I think it remains her best work of art to this day, and the fact that it didn’t win Album of the Year at the Grammy’s is still a travesty.
2016 was towards the end of what felt like years of an ongoing depressive state. So a few years before that, I reached a crossroads, and I decided I needed to be intentional about trying to figure out my life – what I wanted, what I needed, and how I was going to position myself to get there. I decided to start traveling, especially internationally, to truly find and work on myself.
I look back on that experience as a series of seminal moments. God has spoken to me in ways he never has before on airplanes over the Pacific and Atlantic Ocean. I’ve learned more about myself – strengths, weaknesses, and curiosities, while walking on the beach in Costa Rica, climbing a mountain in Brazil, or solo roaming the streets of London. I’ve lived a fairly privileged life. Now I want to share it.
So that’s what I Ain’t Sorry is. It’s a travel blog, a collection of my experiences from adventures both domestic and abroad. Some of it will simply be recommending places to eat (or not to eat), others will be reflecting on broadway shows and live entertainment, and some will just be my thoughts, what I was experiencing at the time. I discovered a new found freedom a little over two years ago, and to say a lot of that came from traveling would be a severe understatement.
I hope you all will join me on this journey, and I encourage comments, questions, and emails as you explore on your own. You can reach out at fred@relentless.love. Let the adventures begin!
