Wilder and Fury are Fighters Outside the Ring, Too
Last Saturday night, Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury squared off at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The much anticipated rematch, while entertaining, turned out to be a lopsided affair, with Fury winning the bout in the 7th round via TKO.
I am, admittedly, a fan of Deontay Wilder. He has long been one of the many sport related inspirations in my life. Seeing his performance Saturday evening was both disappointing and shocking. Where Wilder goes from here, and who Fury challenges next, are questions yet to be determined. What has been determined for years, however, is the impact both young men have already had on an entire generation.
Wilder and Fury are heroes, and they are legends in their own right – inside and outside of the ring. Both men have talked openly about their struggles, not just with mental health, but with a genuine desire to end their own lives. Both men, by all measures of mainstream society, stand at top of the world, with more money, fame and success than most people can dream of. Yet to this day, they each remain open about discussing their struggles with depression.
Our hope here at Relentless is for those battling depression, anxiety and/or suicide to always feel comfortable seeking help, and we hope the words of wisdom from the two best heavyweight boxers on the planet can inspire you in the same they have inspired us.
